On November 18, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln traveled through Hanover Junction to the dedication ceremonies for the Gettysburg National Cemetery. A series of photographs taken around this time are believed to have captured Lincoln standing on the station's platform.

On August 23, 1864, Lincoln wrote “This morning, as for some days past, it seems exceedingly probable that this Administration will not be re-elected." On November 6, Lincoln won a 2nd term with 55% of the popular vote and 212 electoral votes.
