Excited to announce a new paper on dark patterns and competition online! You’ve seen cookie banners all over the internet, some with dark patterns that make it hard to reject cookies.
We conducted a field experiment about these banners to study how people choose to share their data as a function of the interface (and whether it uses dark patterns).
We observe people as they browse the web organically, while our extension randomizes which pop-ups users see, and how often they see them.
The marketing group at @ISBedu is hiring at all levels in all areas of research. In addition to marketing PhD students, those in economics and psychology and working on marketing problems are encouraged to apply.

Research isn't just about facts and figures. It is a fusion of science and imagination. And framing India’s research future is a collaborative effort.
The ISB Insights Forum is an annual research showcase and a platform to spotlight key research shaping management discourse in India and abroad. It also seeks to recognise support from individuals - through their philanthropy, corporate expertise, and academic contributions - towards the advancement of research initiatives in the country.
The forum aims to marshal the collective effort of academicians, policymakers, industrialists, and knowledge creators towards creating actionable agendas for the country as it approaches the milestone year of 2047. Headlined by some of ISB’s senior faculty, discussions at the forum will explore solutions to several of the thorny problems that the nation faces today and in the immediate future.
Join us in Mohali on November 24, 2023 to be part of the inaugural edition of the ISB Insights Forum. Register here - https://t.co/rcgqmYkOru

A joint report by the ISB Institute of Data Science and @EcomExpress_Ofc highlights many interesting facets of online shopping in India.
Though, metropolitan residents shop the most online, interestingly, the smaller urban hubs of India – otherwise known as Tier II cities – bring in the largest volume of online orders. Titled 'E-commerce Logistics: Unveiling Data Drive Shopping Patterns' the report suggests Internet penetration, urbanisation and the limited variety of products available at local stores are the primary reasons for the expected growth in smaller cities.

Just attended the talk by Ederer et al. on toxic speech in EJMR at the NBER summer institute. @florianederer@paulgp with discussion from @ce_tucker. Heartbreaking. EJMR toxicity violates any standard of human decency or basic commitment to open science. MUST FIX THIS. /1
