Chicago Police and the Cook County M.E. Are investigating after dozens of decomposed bodies were found in the basement of a funeral home.

The gruesome discovery was found Thursday evening, after CPD received a tip during a funeral at South Chicago Chapel. They found 57 bodies that were kept unrefrigerated in deplorable conditions

Neighbors say they’ve noticed a foul odor in the area since the winter, and thought it was the sewer.

funeral director and embalmer Johanna Morgan's license was temporarily suspended after the agency found that her continued practice posed a danger to public safety, interest and welfare.

State records allege Morgan allowed multiple bodies to be kept in an unrefrigerated area under "deplorable conditions," including a rodent infestation. Officials said the conditions caused the bodies to decompose and become infested with maggots. #CheckOnYallPeople 🙏🏾
