Class antagonism is just a marketing tool. In reality — it is completely identical to Ford supporting Hitler and Ford now having a gay flag.
There is a reason why all of the serious “communist” entities have found prosperity in corporatism and class collaboration.
The central illusion of class collaboration is the belief that society can be organized around the interests of “the people” rather than around the reality of class antagonisms. Every cross-class political project begins from this premise.
This is a lot more true than you would think. Russians, just as every other people around the world see the American brands and to a large extent even the American slang as preferable to anything Russian.
A Russian scoffs at the idea of cheburek if he can have a BigMac.
Stuff like this reminds of the shot-for-shot remake of Commando, “D Day” (2008). It’s a knock-off, low-quality, bootleg version of what’s readily available in the West. Duginists talk about a “Russian world” or “traditional sphere.” It’s all just a “b-side” of America and Europe.
@agentgottlieb@RANJEETDALIT It’s not even about the quality. Most products that are available outside of US are of better quality. It’s more about the perceived prestige of the brand. The kids prefer coke over Tarhun any day of the week. It’s just that simple
@xfoM9 Those are still restaurants as humble as they might be unless we are talking about a kiosk.
It's strange because McDonalds is seen as solidly middle class restaurant all over the east
@xfoM9 I feel that places where you can get Shawarma are, on some level, a bit higher grade than McDonalds.
The average Russian is far-more of a westernboo, especially food-wise than you would think.
