No surprise here but it seems climate change over the last 60 years has resulted in a much more robust New World screwworm population.

Fewer hard freezes now mean easier overwintering, faster breeding (~18-day life cycle in warmth), and northward range expansion in the US.

The 1960s eradication succeeded with help from those cold snaps. This time around, it’s going to be a much tougher fight.
