I don’t think any Western person sitting in the eternal comfort of our homes can fathom the godly strength of the Palestinian people.

I’ve seen medics innovate any resourceful measure they can think of to save a life, even against every fathomable chance of survival.

I’ve seen them operate on maimed children while still retaining the humanity of cooing and comforting their innocent eyes, despite the horror and trauma they themselves carry.

Often these children are the sole survivors of their entire extended families, and total strangers who have suffered their own losses tend to and care for them as if they were their own children.

I’ve seen Palestinian doctors operate on a critically burned pregnant woman’s body in an impossible attempt to rescue her unborn fetus, that it may be written for it to grow into a person.

I’ve even seen a video of a Palestinian man attempt to dig out an obviously dead CAT buried beneath the rubble because, “With God’s will, she might live.”

And yet, even against the strongest military forces on the planet, there is not even a hint of hopelessness or despair on my people’s faces. If anything, it has only served to make them more resolved, resilient and determined to survive. To protect each other. To love one another.

Our political leaders want to convince you that the Palestinian people are subhumans that want to die and teach to kill, to convince us they somehow deserve the inhuman violence our governments unload on them.

But in the immortal words of Palestinian poet Rafeef Ziada, “We teach life, sir.”
