In a patriarchal system, the abusive man is protected.
His behavior is explained.
His reputation is preserved.
His accountability is delayed.
His humanity is centered.
But the woman he harmed?
Her trauma responses are judged.
Her anger is pathologized.
Her grief is diagnosed.
Her body is drugged.
And her truth is called instability.
And this is how the system continues.
Within weeks of my mother's untimely death at the age of 50, my father Brian Behan confessed to having almost killed her "about six times" amid a decades-long campaign of psychological, verbal, physical, sexual and economic abuse. Happy Mother's Day & END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN.
Guilty and pathetic - the production company that went ahead with full prior knowledge of my mother's horrific abuse at the hands of my father and refused to even speak to me after reading my article ⏬️⏬️ #DomesticViolence#DomesticAbuse#BrianBehan#MotherOfAllTheBehans
Sharing this brave account by former colleague @behanthere of growing up with domestic violence & the years it took to speak out. And below her tweet about the current staging of her late father’s work in Dublin.
Sharing freely my below @thetimes article from January detailing just a tiny fraction of the horror that my father #BrianBehan, author of #MotherOfAllTheBehans, inflicted upon MY mother for decades, while living in her mother's house. #DomesticViolence

Just a little reminder that while writing "Mother of All the Behans" & long after its publication, my psychopathic father #BrianBehan was throwing my mother around the house. Shame on anyone who promotes this bullshit. #domesticviolence#domesticabuse@rte@womensaid @SAFEIreland
Article by Rosemary Behan about her father Brian Behan who wrote “Mother of all the Behans “ Shocking beyond belief. Domestic abuse. The death of Kiena Dawes reminds me of my abused mother

#Iraq: One of the few journalists who knew and told the truth from the very beginning; newspapers still have much to answer for. A voice of sanity amid utter & ongoing global madness. Very much identify with the Iraqis who almost don't want to remember - and i'm not the only one
