เวทีผู้นำพลังงานโลกชี้ตรงกันว่า การลดมีเทนไม่ควรถูกมองเป็นเพียงต้นทุนด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม แต่คือการลงทุนที่ช่วยรักษาทรัพยากร ลดการสูญเสีย เพิ่มประสิทธิภาพ และสร้างมูลค่าทางเศรษฐกิจ

ขณะที่กว่า 75% ของการปล่อยมีเทนในภาคพลังงานสามารถลดได้ด้วยเทคโนโลยีที่มีอยู่ แต่โจทย์ใหญ่ยังอยู่ที่ “ผู้นำ–เจตจำนงทางการเมือง–กฎระเบียบ” ที่ต้องเร่งปลดล็อก

ตั้งแต่ World Bank ที่ชี้ถึงโมเดลลดมีเทนซึ่งช่วยประหยัดต้นทุน ไปจนถึง Nigeria LNG ที่พิสูจน์ว่าการลงทุนในเทคโนโลยีลดมีเทนสามารถสร้างผลตอบแทนทางเศรษฐกิจได้จริง

อีกด้าน JOGMEC ชี้ว่า สำหรับเอเชีย *ความมั่นคงพลังงาน–ลดมีเทน” ต้องเดินไปพร้อมกัน เพราะตราบใดที่ LNG ยังมีบทบาทในระบบพลังงาน การลดการรั่วไหลและการเผาก๊าซทิ้งยิ่งมีความสำคัญต่อทั้งประสิทธิภาพและความมั่นคงในการจัดหาพลังงาน

โจทย์ต่อจากนี้จึงไม่ใช่แค่ “จะลดมีเทนอย่างไร” แต่คือ จะเปลี่ยนมีเทนที่สูญเสียให้กลับมาเป็นทรัพยากรและมูลค่าได้อย่างไร
