Best news I’ve heard all day 🥹 Siamese cat has long been considered one of the world’s most recognizable and historically significant cat breeds, known for its striking blue eyes, elegant features, and vocal personality. Originating in Thailand, formerly known as Siam, these cats were once associated with royalty and were often viewed as symbols of luck, grace, and prestige within Thai culture. Their appearance and temperament eventually made them popular worldwide, helping the breed become closely associated with both elegance and companionship. Thailand’s decision to recognize the Siamese cat as part of its national cultural heritage highlights the growing importance of preserving native animal breeds tied to a country’s history and identity. Beyond their beauty, Siamese cats represent centuries of cultural tradition and are considered living symbols connected to Thailand’s heritage. The breed continues to be admired internationally for its intelligence, social nature, and unmistakable appearance, remaining one of the most iconic cats in the world.
🇹🇭 One of the more unusual events I’ve experienced in Thailand is the Brutal Ordination Parade at Wat Takaek in Chaiyaphum Province. It is taking place this year on 1-2 May 2026.
This tradition is part of the local ordination ceremony, where young men demonstrate their determination to enter the monkhood in a truly unforgettable way. Participants are paraded through the temple grounds, often lifted, tossed, or challenged by the crowd and must keep their balance without falling. It’s a test of endurance and commitment before taking their vows.
Deeply rooted in Thai culture, the event blends spirituality with spectacle, drawing both locals and visitors who come to witness this intense rite of passage. While it may look chaotic, it carries symbolic meaning about resilience and readiness for the disciplined life of a Buddhist monk.
