Update on CUET (UG) 2026 — 30 May, Shift 1

Earlier today, some centres faced a technical glitch that delayed the start of Shift 1. We know this was stressful, and we're sorry for the anxiety it caused.

The technical service provider, TCS iON, has been asked to conduct a root-cause analysis and submit its report immediately.

Most candidates (about 95%) were able to complete their exam once it resumed.

We understand that 3,765 candidates who were present and had completed biometric registration chose to leave before the exam could restart.

For these candidates, NTA will hold a rescheduled examination as a one-time measure.

The new date and details will be announced separately.

📢 CUET-UG 2026 | Re-allocation Window Update

Of the 16,681 candidates who applied for a centre change through the re-allocation window, ~92% (15,340) have been successfully allotted their chosen alternative centre.

✅ Revised admit cards have been issued and can now be downloaded at https://t.co/YxXMAz24LW

⚠️ Candidates must carry only the revised admit card to the examination centre. The previously issued admit card stands superseded.

For reference — the overall CUET-UG 2026 allocation:
• 79% allotted their 1st choice city
• 96.6% allotted one of their preferred cities
• 3.4% (52,831 candidates) were eligible for the re-allocation window opened on 5 May

NTA acknowledges the inconvenience caused to affected candidates and is engaged with state authorities to expand secure CBT capacity in high-demand regions ahead of future cycles.

Guidelines regarding dress code & permitted items.

✅ You CAN carry: • Transparent water bottle
• Articles or objects of faith (subject to frisking)
• Religious threads like kalava are allowed
• Woollens if needed
• Normal shoes, slippers & low heels

⏰ If you are wearing articles of faith or extra layers, please reach the centre well in advance to avoid delays during security checks.

🗓️ CUET (UG) 2026 will be conducted from 11 May to 31 May in CBT mode.

CUET-UG 2026 — the logistics behind centre allocation 🧵

This year's exam is among the largest computer-based tests conducted anywhere in the world:

• 15,68,866 candidates registered
• Up to 5 subjects each → 67,56,321 test instances
• 12,906 distinct subject combinations
• 35 shifts nationwide
• ~43% of all candidates concentrated in just 3 states: UP, Bihar & Delhi (6.74 lakh candidates, 9,922 subject combinations between them)

Allocating a centre is not a simple city-matching exercise. Every candidate must be matched on THREE constraints simultaneously:

1️⃣ Their preferred city
2️⃣ Their unique combination of subjects
3️⃣ The specific shift on which those subjects are scheduled

Where demand at a particular city–subject–shift intersection exceeds available CBT centre capacity, alternate cities become unavoidable — especially in the three high-demand states above.

Despite this complexity:
✅ 79% of candidates allotted their 1st choice city
✅ 96.6% allotted one of their preferred cities
