For the past three years, the villages of Dhenkanal, Odisha, have been writing their own story of resilience. Through Project HRIDAY, communities came together to secure their water, restore forests and degraded landscapes and strengthen the institutions that govern their daily lives, as the architects of every change.
The journey reflects the vision of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj's vision for Localising the Sustainable Development Goals (LSDGs), such as
- Water Sufficient Gram Panchayats (Theme 4) through improved water security and groundwater recharge
- Clean & Green Gram Panchayats (Theme 5) through forest restoration, soil and water conservation and natural farming
- Women-Friendly Gram Panchayats (Theme 9) through Mahila Sabhas, Mahila Samman Ghars, women's leadership, and adolescent girls' awareness and training in menstrual health and hygiene.
The Suakati Gram Panchayat in Keonjhar, Odisha, has been conferred with the National Jury Award for e-Governance 2025, recognising its exemplary grassroots leadership and collective efforts for digital transformation towards improved local governance.
