The email came in March. I had been selected for nomination for the JCI (Nigeria) Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the Year Award, one of 50 names shortlisted from hundreds of nominations. I spent time verifying it before I let myself believe it was real.
In May, another email arrived. I had moved from the top 50 to the top 30, following a screening process undertaken and verified by KPMG. That was when it became serious for me, not just because of the recognition, but because of what it represented: an independent, rigorous validation of work I have been quietly building for years.
I have been placed in the Academic Leadership and Accomplishment category. The final selection to the top ten is determined by assessors (60%) and public votes (40%) β and that 40% is why I am writing to you today.
I am asking for your vote. But I am not asking you to support me simply because I asked.
Here is what I have built:
1. Orifunke Lawal Academy β Launched in 2020, our courses and programmes have reached over 2,000 people and graduated over 300 students.
2. Lady with Balls β Directly reached over 5,000 women through community engagement, mentorship initiatives, and impact projects and ecosystem building.
3. Rooms and Roundtables β connecting young leaders with established ones. It has quietly become one of the most meaningful things I have ever built.
4. The MT Scholars' Programme β In 2025, I executed a scholarship programme providing support for indigent students resident on Lagos Island.
5. Speaking and Writing β I am a regular voice in conversations about personal development, leadership, and civic life, through keynote speaking engagements, panel appearances, and my writing, which reaches thousands of readers across platforms.
My work has always been about one thing: creating systems that help people grow, and then using every platform available to me to extend that reach. That is what I am asking you to affirm with your vote.
Please, visit https://t.co/90R0bgbtae to vote ORIFUNKE LAWAL in the Academic Leadership or Accomplishment Category. Voting closes today.
Thank you very much for your support.
Dear X,
I am deeply honoured to share that I have been nominated for the JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the Year Award (TOYP), screened and verified by KPMG, in the Academic Leadership or Accomplishment Category.
This recognition means more than a title. It is a reflection of every community I've built, every learning space I've created, every young person I've encouraged to own their seat, and every young person I've equipped with tools to lead.
From founding the Orifunke Lawal Academy and Rooms and Roundtables, to serving in public governance and championing women's empowerment through the Winning Ladies Circle/Lady with Balls, my journey has always been about people and systems.
Public voting is now open and I would truly appreciate your support. Please take a moment to vote for me and share with your networks as well. Every vote means a lot.

@Sisi_Yemmie The leader is a reflection of society. Until we all begin to see this as a fundamental issue that needs to be solved from childhood. Our dream of change will remain a dream
I canβt believe, in 2026, influencers/creators believe sharing their analytics is stress??????????????????
Again, old takers and the ones with sense will be forever takers!!!! You people donβt know anything
