Cannibalism in Bafia: A Man Kills and Consumes His Uncle’s Flesh

A shocking and extremely serious incident has plunged the town of Bafia, in the Centre Region, into shock and disbelief. A young man identified as Ayouba is accused of killing his uncle, then cooking and consuming his flesh in the bush.

According to the information gathered, the macabre discovery was made during the suspect’s arrest. Law enforcement officers reportedly found skewers of human flesh, a smoked foot, stripped bones, and pieces of meat ready to be cooked, hidden in the forest. The remains are believed to belong to his uncle, a native of Baram, whom the suspect is said to have killed recently.

After the murder, Ayouba allegedly attempted to sell the flesh to a local trader, presenting it as game meat. The trader’s vigilance exposed the deception and led to alerts being raised to administrative and traditional authorities. After this failed attempt, the suspect reportedly fled into the bush, where he continued cooking and consuming the human remains.

As fear spread among the population, the traditional chieftaincy quickly set up a vigilance committee to apprehend the suspected killer and secure surrounding villages. Fearing for their safety, several residents—particularly women—had stopped going to their farms.

News of the suspect’s arrest triggered strong emotions and public outrage, with a shocked crowd demanding justice in what they describe as an unprecedented act of barbarism.

Although Ayouba is now in the hands of the competent authorities, the exact motives behind this act of cannibalism remain unknown. An investigation has been opened to shed full light on this disturbing case, which defies comprehension and has deeply shaken the local community.
