The System of Political Repression in Belarus Must Be Dismantled
Belarus Freedom Forum urges the U.S. Congress to update the Belarus Democracy Act so that any sanctions relief is conditioned on verifiable legal and institutional reforms, including the repeal of repressive laws and regulations, the adoption of safeguards against renewed politically motivated prosecutions, and the demand for full amnesty, legal rehabilitation, return of confiscated assets, and restoration of rights for all political prisoners.

New reports from @stranafund describe humiliating personal searches at the Belarusian border targeting people previously involved in so-called “protest cases”.
This is another reminder that returning to Belarus is not safe for those who call for freedom and oppose the regime.
#Belarus lost another young life to this generation's fight for freedom. Tsikhan Kliukach, a former Belarusian political prisoner, died fighting in #Ukraine. He was only 23.
Imprisoned by Lukashenka. Forced into exile. Then took up arms against Russian aggression.
A 21-year-old Belarusian was detained over comments about Stalin & the USSR.
Today’s repression in Belarus is carried out by the moral heirs of the NKVD — people who still believe arrests & punishment for opinions are normal.
The system changed its symbols, but not its methods.
A residential building in Kyiv was reportedly struck by a missile manufactured recently, @ZelenskyyUa says.
Russia is still obtaining components for missile production by circumventing sanctions.
Latest reports say 12 people were killed in Kyiv, including two children.
Thank you @RepKiley for breaking the gridlock by signing the discharge petition to advance a critical bill supporting Ukraine and strengthening U.S. national security.
Thanks to @RepGregoryMeeks for his tireless leadership, and to @RepBrianFitz, @RepDonBacon, and all members who supported this effort.
Now the House must act ASAP.
Belarus’ regime annulled the passport of Nobel laureate Ales Bialiatski, according to @viasna96. First, they unlawfully imprisoned the human rights defender for years. Then, they forcibly removed him from Belarus, and now continue to pressure him through transnational repression.
The dictator has turned our country into an extension of Russia’s war posture in Europe. This is not the choice of Belarusians. It is a regime trading sovereignty for survival—a regime at war with its own people.
There can be no lasting security in Europe without a free Belarus.
We will know when repression stops in Belarus.
When arrests end. When political trials disappear. When independent media and civil society can work freely again.
But today, repression continues at full force. And so does our struggle to free our people from the regime's terror.
Long live Belarus! 🤍❤️🤍
Thank you to everyone who joined us today for the Freedom Day march in Warsaw.
And special thanks to 🇵🇱 Poland for its support for the Belarusian people and our fight for freedom.

Today, Belarusians in the United States and worldwide celebrate the 108th Anniversary of the Belarusian Democratic Republic. On March 25, 1918, a council of representatives from political and religious organizations across Belarus proclaimed a sovereign and free nation, establishing the first precedent of Belarusian nationhood.

✊Founder of @Viasna96 and #NobelPeacePrize laureate Ales Bialiatski wrote a column for @nytimes
"Despite the danger, many courageous people in #Belarus continue to work for freedom, and they must not be forgotten. We must find new ways to build solidarity across borders because of the scale of the challenges facing the Belarusian people."

Throughout 2025, Russia has relentlessly targeted civilian infrastructure—including homes and energy facilities—escalating attacks before winter. It's not a war - it’s terrorism.
