@tentacularity obviously bel's disability IS a factor - it's the thing that allows dean to have leverage in the first place! but dean is only temporarily tipping a scale in his favor, in a world where that scale is otherwise almost always stacked against him.

beldaruit being disabled is very interesting when paired with witch society's inaccessibility problem, esp since i believe the implication is that his disability has been there since birth

@tentacularity !!! IKR they're two politicians, bel is VERY aware of his place in society and the power he holds. id even say that a lot of beldaruit's annoyance with dean isn't due to their occasional doctor-patient dynamic, but because he knows dean won't let his lies to him go unchecked

@tentacularity i agree! it's easy to focus on the imbalance between a doctor and a disabled man, but he's basically the only known witch that dean can talk to on even ground. he wants to get tools to help his people, and trying to twist bel's arm into giving him access to said tools 🙂‍↕️

what qifrey does to nolnoa has direct correlation to tartah's own spiral - his actions do harm that is long-lasting, and affirming that "it's okay for him to do XYZ because of his trauma" is a flattening of both morality and storytelling that i hope the story doesn't commit to
