Au cœur des échanges: l’exécution des arrêts de la CEDH, soit veiller à ce que les États membres donnent une suite concrète aux décisions de la Cour, par des réformes et des évolutions des pratiques nationales.

Centraal in de besprekingen stond de uitvoering van arresten van het EHRM, erop toezien dat de lidstaten concreet gevolg geven aan de beslissingen van het Hof, onder meer via hervormingen en veranderingen in nationale praktijken.

The Committee of Ministers’ Deputies met today in 🇲🇨 to discuss key issues: Russia’s aggression against 🇺🇦, the situation in the Middle East, the right to a healthy environment, migration with respect for human rights and combating disinformation.

Het Comité van Afgevaardigden van Ministers kwam vandaag bijeen in 🇲🇨 om belangrijke kwesties te bespreken: de Russische agressie tegen 🇺🇦, de situatie in het Midden-Oosten, het recht op een gezond milieu, migratie met respect voor mensenrechten en de strijd tegen desinformatie.

⚖️ The independence and impartiality of courts must always be protected from intimidation and political pressure.

This fundamental principle lies at the core of Belgian foreign policy.

⚖️ Belgium condemns all sanctions targeting the International Criminal Court, its officials and those cooperating with it. The measures undermine the Court’s independence and impartiality and weaken the global fight against impunity. The #ICC must be free to fulfil its mandate without intimidation or political pressure. This is not about defending national sovereignty. On the contrary, sovereignty also carries the responsibility to abide by the fundamental principles of international law.

Belgium will always stand with the victims in their pursuit of justice. We also stand in solidarity with the Court’s staff and the many civil society organisations working tirelessly to advance accountability, and will continue to do its part, including by advocating for the activation of the Blocking Statute.
