We’ve just completed 2 weeks of work to protect and stabilise an embankment at Killiekrankie, between Pitlochry and Blair Atholl on the Highland Main Line, following July’s landslip there. /1

50+ tonnes of mud and vegetation had to be removed from the tracks and slope above after floodwater ran from third-party land onto the railway, triggering the slip. /2

We’ve positioned a new wall of gabion baskets at the bottom of the slope, and installed erosion netting to encourage regrowth, binding the top layers of soil together. Read more from our project manager, Tom, in the news article below. /3

Update: 27/01 @ 15:00 We wanted to give a further update for our passenger and freight customers on the closure of the railway between Stonehaven and Montrose. We know the disruption this is causing. It’s going to remain closed until Monday Feb 22, while repairs are completed. /1

Update: 22/01 @ 18:00. Our focus since last week has been on assessing the condition of the bridge and developing a plan to reopen the railway. The site is a complex one for our team due to the rural area, exposed location, and the height (15m) they’re working at. /1
