Today we say farewell to our Vice-Presidents,
@ExeVPEducation Bella, @ExeVPLiberation Marion, and
@ExeVPOpps Izzy.
What an amazing year we’ve had working with you – thank you for everything you’ve accomplished this year, we’re all really going to miss you!
Stay in touch 💚
Yesterday I had the privilege of giving the student vote of thanks speech at #Stormzy 's honorary graduation at @UniofExeter! It was an honour to share the stage with such an inspiration (and later go on to have lunch and get to know him more!) Huge congrats to the new Dr. Mike🥳
We live in a world where girls and women are FINED for trying to cover up while playing sports, but also EXPELLED from schools if their shoulders are showing.
Again, I dare you to ask why we’re angry.
Three lads who were brilliant all summer had the courage to step up & take a pen when the stakes were high. They deserve support & backing not the vile racist abuse they’ve had since last night. If you abuse anyone on social media you’re not an @England fan and we don’t want you.
We paid St Luke’s campus a visit today as part of induction and handover. Can’t wait to see Bella and Lily transforming the student experience on this campus during their term in office!
"We're currently planning for there to be a 2m+ rule indoors when it comes to September, you know, to be on the safe side"
"What about halls?"
"Oh, 100% occupancy, obvs"
***screams into void***
I really hope this year has shone enough light on rental conditions in general, but particularly for students. Hiked up prices for sub-par conditions because they know they cornered the market- we’ll only be there for a year & leave the next lot to complain about the same thing.
Are you a uni student feeling behind in your studies due to pandemic disruption and worrying about exams? If you're free to speak to me today pls email [email protected]
Just in time to pack up the rooms they haven’t been allowed to return to.
This announcement just reiterates how overlooked students have been during the pandemic. Still no discussions around rent rebates or tuition fee refunds, but we can return after most exams are done 👍🏻
Do you have caring responsibilities? If so, come along to our student carers virtual coffee morning on Monday 12 April at 11:00, where you can find out about some of the support available to you ☕ https://t.co/g9zTbnXPUk
There needs to be a conversation about the impact of lockdown lifting, end of uni, summer festivals etc on drug use. Illegal & legal drug use at festivals/one-off events is nuanced in its danger - even more so this year (inexperienced users, unknown dealers, mixing of substances)
The argument has never been that teaching was moved online - students are also living through the pandemic. The issue is being told things are ‘equivalent’ enough to merit usual assessment or cost when hours have been halved, access cut & independent work increased
There's nothing inherently wrong with a year of HE that's been almost all online given there's been a global pandemic on. But the idea that people were made to fork out rent to experience it, or that it has been "equivalent" for most students, remains a complete joke.
Further, if we truly believe that education is based on meritocracy, it's unfair that we make access to higher education more difficult for some people compared to others just basing on luck, i.e., where they were born or brought up. #NatCon21
