A society that loses respect for its places of worship risks losing respect for one another.
Our young people should never be used as instruments of political confrontation, least of all inside churches, mosques, temples, or any other place of worship. Whether the person attending is a political ally, an opponent, or an ordinary citizen, everyone deserves the freedom to worship in peace.
When politics begins to invade sacred spaces, it becomes increasingly difficult to preserve civility elsewhere. Today it may be a church service; tomorrow it could be a funeral, a school function, or a community gathering. That is a dangerous path for any nation.
The energy, creativity, and courage of our youth should be invested in education, entrepreneurship, innovation, community service, and holding leaders accountable through lawful and peaceful means not in disrupting religious gatherings at the urging of politicians.
Leadership is not measured by how effectively one can mobilise crowds to intimidate others. It is measured by the ability to inspire discipline, respect, and peaceful engagement, even in the face of political differences.
Kenya needs a generation that debates ideas vigorously but also understands that there are institutions and spaces that must remain above partisan politics. Let our houses of worship continue to be places where people seek God, find hope, and strengthen communities not stages for political confrontation.
After losing a sibling or your parents or anyone close to you, nobody tells you that on a bright sunny day just driving down the road for no reason at all tears will start to fill up in your eyes out of nowhere. Nobody tells you that for minutes on end, your mind puts you back in that time and place of trauma and you feel it all over again. So much so that you have to literally snap yourself out of it, and shake it off and say to yourself "I'm ok"... there is no time limit on grief. Check on your people.
