The visit is aimed at engaging key American institutions, including the United States Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the United States Export-Import Bank (EXIM), senior officials of the U.S. State Department, and other policy and investment stakeholders, to explore investment, trade and development opportunities that will benefit Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
As part of his early engagements, Governor Mutfwang met with U.S. Congressman Riley Moore, where discussions focused on strengthening the growing partnership between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in the areas of economic cooperation, investment, security and democratic governance.
During the meeting, Governor Mutfwang highlighted the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which prioritises the welfare, security and prosperity of all Nigerians. He also underscored the significant progress being recorded in the fight against insurgency, noting that the President’s decisive leadership and commitment to national security are beginning to yield positive and measurable results across the country.
Congressman Riley Moore commended Governor Mutfwang for the visit and expressed his strong interest in deepening U.S.–Nigeria relations. He reaffirmed his commitment to working with the Nigerian Government to promote a comprehensive partnership that will be mutually beneficial to both nations.

GOVERNOR CALEB MUTFWANG FLAGS OFF JEBBU BASSA–BINCHIN–BUYO ROAD, EXTENDS INTERVENTION TO SABON LAYI–CORNER SHAGARI ROAD IN JOS NORTH AMID JUBILATION
In an atmosphere charged with celebration and renewed hope, the Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, officially flagged off the long-awaited construction of the 39.7-kilometer Jebbu Bassa–Binchin–Buyo Road in Bassa Local Government Area. He also flagged off the 2.3-kilometer Sabon Layi–Corner Shagari Road in Jos North LGA.
The intervention, widely described as both a humanitarian rescue and a bold affirmation of inclusive governance through strategic infrastructure delivery, attracted a large turnout of top government officials, stakeholders, party leaders, and citizens.
Speaking at the ceremony in Bassa, Governor Mutfwang, alongside his Deputy, expressed joy that the project fulfilled a personal campaign promise.
“Each time I passed through this road, it pained my heart that such a short distance took such a long time. Today marks the beginning of changing that story. Governance, for me, is about keeping faith with the people,” he declared.
Reaffirming his administration’s service-driven philosophy, the Governor stated: "I am a messenger of the Plateau people, and I am determined to deliver good governance, peace, and development.”
He acknowledged inheriting numerous abandoned projects alongside a debt burden running into hundreds of billions of naira but emphasized that financial limitations would not derail rural transformation.
“We do not have all the resources, but by God’s grace we will find them. We will be prudent and prioritize development over unnecessary political battles,” he said, stressing that unity remains central to conserving resources and accelerating growth across the state.
Describing road infrastructure as the backbone of economic revival, Governor Mutfwang noted that nearly every local government area in Plateau State currently has an ongoing road project. He explained that the Jebbu Bassa–Binchin–Buyo Road, one of the longest stretches in the state, will enhance trade, improve security access, and strengthen inter-state connectivity with neighboring Kaduna State.
“We are determined that every part of Plateau must be linked together,” he affirmed. Calling for community ownership, the Governor urged landowners and youths to cooperate fully with contractors. "This road is for all of us. Let it not be heard that anyone demanded millions before soil could be taken from his land. We must make sacrifices for collective progress.”
He assured contractors of adequate security to guarantee smooth project execution.
The Commissioner for Works, Hon. Joshua Ubandoma, disclosed that the administration inherited 45 abandoned road projects totaling 1,261.28 kilometers, many of which had remained untouched for 12 to 13 years.
In less than three years, the government has covered about 30 percent of the total stretch, reactivated 31 of the 45 projects with contractors fully mobilized, and awarded eight new road projects across the three senatorial zones, including key bridges and strategic corridors.
He further noted that due process necessitated terminating a non-performing contractor before re-awarding the 39.7-kilometer Jebbu–Binchin–Buyo inter-state link, which will ease healthcare access and improve security.
In his welcome remarks, the Bassa LGA Chairman described the project as a lifeline for farmers, traders, students, and families who have endured decades of hardship, particularly during the rainy season.
“This road is far more than asphalt; it is a pathway to economic liberation, social integration, security, and development,” he said.
Project Engineer Engr. Mike Adeboye of PW Construction assured the government and people of quality and timely delivery. "We are ready, prepared, and committed to executing this project to the highest standards.”
"I would like to thank @POTUS for prioritizing this issue and for his leadership on the global stage in calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria." - @NICKIMINAJ

GOVERNOR MUTFWANG ATTENDS CHIEF LATEEF FAGBEMI'S ALUMNI LECTURE AT UNIVERSITY OF JOS, SAYS PLATEAU WILL GIVE PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU A ROUSING WELCOME ON SATURDAY
The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called on the people of Plateau State to come out en masse and give a rousing welcome to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who will be visiting the state on Saturday for the burial of the late mother of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda.
Governor Mutfwang made the call on Friday in his remarks at the Distinguished Alumni Lecture of the University of Jos, delivered by the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN. The lecture, titled “The Nigerian Justice System in a Digital Age: Opportunities, Challenges and the Road Ahead”, attracted a cross-section of eminent personalities from the legal and academic communities.
The Governor stressed the importance of unity, peace, and harmony in advancing the development of Plateau State and Nigeria.
“Tomorrow, we will be receiving Mr. President in Jos, Plateau State, as he comes to honour our late mother, the mother of my dear brother, the National Chairman of the APC. I am confident that Plateau people will give Mr. President a warm and rousing welcome. I believe that his visit will afford him a deeper appreciation of Plateau and its people,” Governor Mutfwang said.
He reiterated his conviction that Plateau State remains one of the best places to live in Nigeria, endowed with rich human and natural resources yet to be fully harnessed.
“We cannot realize our full potential if we continue to pull one another down. We must remain our brothers’ keepers and work collectively to bring Plateau to the place of honour that God has destined for us,” he remarked.
Governor Mutfwang also commended Chief Fagbemi for delivering a thought-provoking lecture, describing him as a “fountain of knowledge.” He noted that the lecture, presented with a blend of practical experience and deep reflection, offered valuable insights into how technology is shaping justice delivery in Nigeria.
He appealed to the Attorney General to support the advancement of competent and patriotic alumni of the University of Jos into leadership positions at the national level, while urging the University to extend a hand of mentorship to Plateau State University, Bokkos, where he serves as Visitor.
In his lecture, Chief Fagbemi underscored the transformative role of technology in the legal system, describing it as a necessity for ensuring swift, accurate, and accessible justice.
He recalled that the turning point came during the COVID-19 pandemic when the Chief Justice of Nigeria introduced practice directions for virtual hearings. Since then, some state judiciaries have adopted innovations such as e-filing and digital cause lists, while others still rely on traditional paper processes.
According to him, the legal profession is gradually embracing a hybrid model where physical and virtual processes complement one another.
“The lesson is clear: technology in justice is not a luxury but a necessity in today’s interconnected world. However, its adoption must be deliberate, inclusive, and rooted in the core values of justice. Nigeria must not copy blindly, but adopt wisely,” the Attorney General emphasized.
Also speaking, Senator representing Plateau South, Barr. Simon Bako Lalong, and the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, expressed appreciation to the Attorney General for honouring the institution with his lecture. They described him as an accomplished legal practitioner whose purposeful service has shaped governance in Nigeria and beyond.
