A murmuration of about 500 starlings near @belwin_org. While starlings are a destructive, invasive bird species in Minnesota, their aerial maneuvers are impressive. See more murmurations here: https://t.co/u3zKKAr9Fm
It looked like winter here last Friday with wind chills at 10 degrees and 80% snow cover. Today (Wednesday) we have temps in the mid 80’s and the snow is gone.
Images from today:
Stowing kick sleds for the winter.
Ice still holding on at the deep pool.
It is *so wonderful* to get students into MN Astronomical Society’s observatory at @belwin_org
5th graders took pictures of sun spots causing amazing Northern Lights in the news this week.
Those spots looks small, but each spot is the size of the entire planet earth 🌏🤯
Ice is not nice! Belwin turns snowshoes into ice shoes w/ metal cleats! @Daytons_Bluff 4th & 5th graders crossed the slippery ice with confidence. Too bad we only have a dozen pairs. Icy trails (rain followed by cold) could be a new climate normal. @ClimateGenOrg @SPPS_Science
One of MN's more peculiar insects is Phobetron pithecium, also known as the Hag Moth Caterpillar or the Monkey Slug Caterpillar. On the caterpillar’s back are nine pairs of furry tentacle-like arms that can extend and move. #Minnesota101

@paul_cunniffe1 Although a native, migratory bird protected by the USFWS, house wrens are notorious for killing other birds, especially other cavity nesters like bluebirds, chickadees, and tree swallows. Here’s a decent article exploring the wren’s apparent blood lust https://t.co/7zwLVrmESw
Chelsea Hts 3rd graders use a solar filter to safely view the sun 🌞 first with their eyes, and then through the telescope
“This reminds me of the @SPPSPlanetarium!” They said
Yes! We see every @SPPS_News 3rd grader, & so does the Planetarium.

Our @journeynorthED tulips bloomed yesterday! We created a Cohort for SPPS schools
7 months
14 schools
700 tulips
Urban tulips emerged 2 weeks earlier, and bloomed 3 days earlier than Belwin (exurban site) tulips
