The Ramparts of Ice ✅ 9/10

Agasawa-sensei’s 6 month run from Polar opposites to this, back to polar opposites again has to be one of the most dominant in modern history. Two all time great romances in my opinion that each have their own unique charm and detail different aspects of adolescence. For me, Ramparts is the better of the two because I like my angst, drama and character development, but they’re both great!

I’m glad we won’t have to wait too long for season 2 here after that finale! This was amazing from beginning to end with ample character development for our leads and supporting characters as well as some satisfactory romantic progress. We’re just now getting into the business end of things, so season 2 should have us all covering our faces and giggling because no way we don’t get that Koyuki x Minato confession soon. It’s so cool how much that ship grew on me in real time as well because I wasn’t a fan of Minato at the start, but as I got to know him, man he’s a great dude!

The voice acting and direction in this series was really underrated. I think it should be up there among the best of the season because they were really a great aid to the storytelling and conveyed the characters’ emotions, insecurities and struggles so well. Especially the titular “ramparts of ice” which symbolized Koyuki’s aversion to people and trauma.

So many great romance shows in Spring 2026, hard to say which was the best, I kind of went back and forth from day to day, but this and Nikura were consistently up there for me, what an experience. Love Koyuki so much and I can’t wait for part 2!
