Thank you for writing this. We who live in affluent blue cities should indeed be ashamed that we have let our public schools deteriorate as we’ve taken wrong turns towards lowering standards, reducing accountability and restricting choices, while poor red states like Mississippi lap us on doing what we claim to be so concerned about: improving the educational attainment of poor and minority children.
