To the two individuals that literally carried me down the mall today at the @LondonMarathon - you are legends and I’ll definitely be paying that forward #LondonMarathon
Great job by @DrSamCallaghan presenting some of our work looking at the importance of using a wide lens to understand COD performance using wearable sensors @isbs_conference
Do find it odd no-one alive in England has experienced a year as wet as this & it’s not on the news. Wettest since 1871. If this was a much less exceptional drought it wouldn’t be out of the headlines. I bet we’ve all got serious vitamin D deficiencies from the lack of sunlight.
Stop the clocks, turn off the telephone, @JasminKParis is on the verge of sporting immortality. In 38 years no woman has EVER finished #BarkleyMarathons, the world’s toughest ultra. Today Jasmine just might #smalleuropeanwoman#BM100
Hang on a minute…
This was the Team GB uniform for the 2012 Olympic Games and nobody said a word? Everyone understood that it was an artistic interpretation of the Union Jack and were happy with it. This country has gone utterly backwards.
Please share with anyone who may be interested in an Applied MSc in Sport and Exercise Biomechanics or Physiology. This is a great opportunity to see the fantastic facilities @YourStMarys, meet staff and students and experience the work going on here.
I get the decision by @parkrun to scrap many records or stats. Their number 1 objective is to be a community event, not a competitive one. If you are really worried about the decision go and find an actual race. There are quite a few around.
New fans that watched the Netflix documentary tuning in to the 2024 6 Nations to see their favorite players, Louis Rees-Zammit, Antoine Dupont, Owen Farrell, Stuart Hogg & Mack Hansen
Very exciting to advertise this funded PhD position @TeessideUni which will explore novel balance training regimens for people with COPD, including modified sports. Would suit someone who enjoys working at the interface between disciplines. Please spread the word (Oct 24 start)
Harvey Lewis has won Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra — one of the most impressive athletic accomplishments ever.
Here's how it works:
Competitors run a 4.16-mile (6.7km) loop every hour over hilly terrain.
If they complete their lap in under an hour, they can use the remaining time to eat, drink, sleep, and recover.
However, they must begin the next loop at the start of the next hour — and keep repeating this until they can't continue any longer.
The race has no set end and finishes when only one person is left able to run, the rest having pulled out through exhaustion injury, or lack of sleep.
But here's the craziest part...
This year's race went on for 108 hours.
That means Harvey Lewis ran 4 miles...every hour...for nearly FIVE STRAIGHT DAYS.
• 108 hours of running
• 450 miles covered
• New World Record
At one point he was taking 60-second naps before starting his next lap!
That's absolutely insane.
