NAFDAC decentralisation: Nigeria should be consistent with its move toward devolution. @NafdacAgency

-(a): TIME FOR @DGatNAFDAC to BOW OUT.

1: Just as we are debating State Police and already have State Electricity Regulatory Commissions, states should be empowered to establish their own food, drug and consumer-safety regulatory agencies, operating within national standards set by NAFDAC.

2: Today, food and drugs remain under the Exclusive Legislative List, so this requires constitutional/legal reform.

3: My proposal:

-(a): National Assembly should amend the relevant laws to enable states to establish state-level regulatory agencies. @NGRSenate @HouseNGR @SenGodswill @Speaker_Abbas

-(b): Rather than NAFDAC trying to maintain offices across 774 LGAs, let states take greater responsibility for regulation closer to their people.

-(c): I am amending my earlier tweets.

4: NAFDAC should remain the national standard-setting, coordination and enforcement authority, while states handle appropriate local regulatory functions.

5: The NAFDAC law, whose origin dates to Decree No. 15 of 1993, should be reviewed to reflect today’s realities.

6: The @nigerian_reform should urgently review outdated laws across sectors.

-(a): Our legal framework must evolve with society. @fmojustice @LOFagbemi

7: I commend the @DGatNAFDAC for the work done under her leadership, particularly strengthening the agency’s financial sustainability.

-(a): But institutions also need renewal.

-(b): April 29, 2001, the DG NAFDAC informed the Senate Committee Finance under @Sen_AdeolaYAYI that the agency COULD CONVENIENTLY EXIT THE FEDERAL BUDGET to the extent of overheads as well as capital provisions.

-(c): Excellent job done by the DG NAFDAC

8: However, the situation is very bad now, so we must change our strategy to rid our society from fake drugs, Mr President @officialABAT

-(a): it is time to appoint a new DG with a fresh mandate. @muhammadpate @SalakoIziaq

9: Nigeria cannot preach devolution in security and electricity while insisting on absolute centralisation in every other sector.

10: Let the states carry more responsibility—and more accountability. They have money from fuel subsidy removal @NGFSecretariat
