While watching Eric Garcetti's COVID briefing, I've been assaulted by the monstrosity that is the LA city flag.
We need to change this, people. It has the beginnings of a good design so there is hope.
Look for a petition once the thing ends.
@maxdubler Less talked about aspect of this is making less than 100k/year in LA County is considered Low Income and would qualify one for subsidized housing!
The LA region has the fewest homes per adult of anywhere in America.
When homes are scarce, rents rise. The result: LA is the most rent burdened big city in America.
Another thing that enrages me about public music-players is that they are RELYING on others not doing the same. If everyone played music aloud, it wouldn’t be enjoyable for anyone. These people aren’t merely rejecting codes of civility, they are actively *exploiting* them.

I understand watching the original Godzilla in Japanese doesn't work for the same reasons. But that movie is fairly unflinching, if you can accept the metaphor of a giant dinosaur
Idk at the moment how i feel about this, but to those who are like "there are already books on this," i submit to you that if you want to confront a large audience of americans with the horrors of imperial violence, you probably should not bet on them reading a book about it
I just want Israel to tolerate rocket attacks like car crashes. We tolerate them to get to work on time; Israel must tolerate them to retain their humanity.
@yFactr There certainly is more to be planned.
A EW line along Santa Monica that add Silver Lake, ECHO Park, and Doger Stadium would go along way.
A NS line along Robertson, La Bea, or Western would plug gaps
@yFactr It's being looked into!
D-line extension, K Line north, Vermont BRT, and the Sepulveda line will create a fairly workable system of transit in central LA!

@jmhorp Yes. They're loud, dirty, and aggressive. You can't talk to the person next to you. And you have to drive home so going a little too deep is not an option nor is a lovely walk after with your friends home. Cars ruin cities.
@asymmetricinfo It's mainly the lack of public spaces (parks, plazas, cafes) and cultural amenities (museums, theatres, street fairs, clubs). Obviously America has those, but when one is in Europe, one becomes extremely aware of the difference.
I actually think this illustrates a challenge with the modern-day abundance agenda. What's the expensive thing that rich people today have but isn't "in every home" yet? It's hard to think of anything.
