The documentary that the BBC refused to air - Gaza: Doctors Under Attack - won a Bafta last night.
The documentary shows the targeting, detainment and torture of medics in Gaza by Israeli authorities. The decimation of Gaza’s healthcare system including the detention of healthcare workers is central to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Amnesty awarded Gaza: Doctors Under Attack at the Amnesty Media Awards last week. The work of everyone involved in making this documentary and fighting for it to be broadcast shows the importance of journalists willing to speak truth to power.

I travelled through Great Nicobar today.
These are the most extraordinary forests I have ever seen in my life. Trees older than memory. Forests that took generations to grow.
The people on this island are equally beautiful - both the adivasi communities and the settlers - but they are being robbed of what is rightfully theirs.
The government calls what it is doing here a “Project.” What I have seen is not a project. It is millions of trees marked for the axe. It is 160 square kilometres of rainforest condemned to die. It is communities that have been ignored while their homes have been snatched away.
This is not development. This is destruction dressed in development’s language.
So I will say it plainly, and I will keep saying it: what is being done in Great Nicobar is one of the biggest scams and gravest crimes against this country’s natural and tribal heritage in our lifetime.
It must be stopped. And it can be stopped - if Indians choose to see what I have seen.
The poor are the worst enemies of the poor
THE general perception of envy is that it is a reaction of the deprived to those who have everything. Even India’s most famous intellectual, Chanakya, had this view: ‘only lazy and poor people’ develop envy, and that ‘prostitutes envy loyal women, and widows envy married women’. This is a wrong analysis of human nature. Envy is a thing between equals.
Whom do you envy? Not whom you think you should envy, but whom do you actually envy? Chances are you don’t envy Elon Musk or Mukesh Ambani, or any other billionaire (assuming you are not one yourself, in which case you would be envying other billionaires). You are more likely to envy your neighbours, colleagues, cousins, siblings, or spouse, or all of them. Chanakya had got this totally wrong. A prostitute is more likely to be envious of a more beautiful prostitute than ‘a loyal woman’ who is not in the trade.
The Greek poet Hesiod agrees with me in Works and Days (in a translation by Hugh G. Evelyn-White) ‘...potter is angry with potter, and craftsman with craftsman, and beggar is jealous of beggar, and minstrel of minstrel.’
(That is why, in your grander private moments, what may annoy you about those who envy you is not that they defame and slander, but that those b******s really do think they are your equals.)
There is another powerful force that equality exerts, which is derived from the same complex strands of people sharing the same social plane: hatred. Equals compete for the same band of resources. As in the case of envy, the poor may have a theoretical sense of whom they should hate more—‘the big people’. But whom they actually hate is very different—people who are very much like them.

The way the Iran Israel war is shaping up, I'm beginning to feel that a Palestinian State would be possible. A few Arab states should pitch in now. I have no hope from India. @palestine@Ram_Guha@DalrympleWill@PicoIyer@Aakar__Patel
