È semplicemente scandaloso.

Paolo Mieli, con la sua consueta arroganza colonialista, si è lasciato andare, durante la trasmissione di Lilli Gruber su La7, a un discorso indegno sulla liberazione di Marwan Barghouti. Ha dichiarato testualmente: “Marwan Barghouti va liberato, ma non adesso. Va liberato come Mandela, cercando di liberarlo e trovando degli accordi. Altrimenti, se lo liberiamo subito, è uno che può creare molti problemi a Israele.”

Oltre alla menzogna storica sulla liberazione di Mandela, che non fu rilasciato perché faceva comodo, ma perché il mondo intero si era schierato contro il regime di apartheid in Sudafrica, bisogna ricordare che la pressione della società civile mondiale e l’embargo internazionale avevano reso impossibile la sopravvivenza del regime. Mandela fu liberato solo dopo che il sistema dell’apartheid era crollato, come atto conclusivo della sua fine.

Rendiamoci conto di ciò che ha detto: Barghouti, prigioniero politico da anni, incarcerato ingiustamente per ragioni esclusivamente politiche, secondo Mieli non dovrebbe essere liberato “subito” perché la sua libertà disturberebbe Israele. In altre parole, Mieli ammette implicitamente che Barghouti sia detenuto per motivi politici, ma allo stesso tempo giustifica la sua detenzione finché il potere coloniale non lo riterrà “opportuno”.

Questa è l’essenza del pensiero colonialista: riconoscere l’ingiustizia, ma accettarla come “necessaria” per tutelare l’ordine imposto dal più forte. Paolo Mieli, con il suo linguaggio apparentemente moderato, perpetua la logica del dominatore che decide tempi, libertà e dignità degli oppressi.

Non è analisi politica, è complicità morale con il colonialismo. Paolo Mieli è, senza mezzi termini, un colonialista.

Hitler, Stalin, Trotsky, Freud, and Franz Joseph all lived within a couple of miles of each other on the eve of WWI......

This map visualization highlights an astonishing historical coincidence, five of the most influential figures of 20th Century once lived in close proximity in Vienna, Austria, around 1913. Sigmund Freud, already famous for his work in psychoanalysis, lived in Berggasse. Just a few miles away, a young and impoverished Adolf Hitler was painting postcards. Nearby, the exiled Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky was editing socialist newspapers, while Joseph Stalin reportedly passed through Vienna under an alias. Over them all ruled Emperor Franz Joseph, the aging monarch of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Vienna at the time was a city of contradictions—a cultural beacon of art, music, and science, yet politically restless and divided by nationalism. It is haunting to consider how this brief overlap concentrated so many minds that would later reshape history, for better and worse. Within a few years, World War I would erupt, setting the stage for the ideological battles these men would come to embody.

It is rumored that Hitler and Trotsky may have even visited the same café in Vienna’s Leopoldstadt district—though there is no evidence they ever met. Still, their simultaneous presence remains one of history’s great what-ifs.
