ARTICLE I: DUTERTE FACES ALLEGATIONS OVER CONFIDENTIAL FUNDS USE
Vice President Sara Duterte, the first Philippine official to be impeached twice, faces four Articles of Impeachment after the House of Representatives approved her second impeachment complaint on May 11, with the Senate allocating 92 trial days for the proceedings.
Article I accuses Duterte of culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, and betrayal of public trust over the alleged systematic misuse, misappropriation, and irregular liquidation of ₱612.5 million in confidential funds, including ₱500 million for the Office of the Vice President and ₱112.5 million for the Department of Education.
The allegations have placed renewed scrutiny on the allocation and use of confidential and intelligence funds, particularly the OVP’s receipt of around ₱500 million in such funds from 2022 to 2023.

‘BAKIT PINAPARUSAHAN ANG GRAVE THREATS KAHIT HINDI NATULOY SA PHYSICAL ACTS?’
REWATCH: Senator-judge Risa Hontiveros asked NBI official Jeremy Lotoc why the law punishes grave threats even if they are never carried out.
Lotoc said such utterances must be addressed to maintain peace and order, adding that penalizing grave threats serves as a deterrent.
The defense maintains that while Vice President Sara Duterte said she had spoken to someone to kill President Bongbong Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she herself were killed, there is no evidence that she actually contracted an assassin. | @eimorpsantos
‘TYPOGRAPHICAL ERRORS DO NOT CHANGE THE FACT THAT VP DUTERTE COMMITTED GRAVE THREATS, INCITING TO SEDITION’
WATCH: NBI regional director Jeremy Lotoc stood by the findings of the investigation, saying typographical errors in some of the documents presented by the defense do not change its conclusion that Vice President Sara Duterte committed grave threats and inciting to sedition.
During cross-examination, defense lawyer Marvin Vinluan argued that the errors and inconsistencies in the documents could indicate possible violations of due process. | @TristanNodalo

Atty Lorna Kapunan says if the VP backtracks, or says she lied or says the threats were a joke, “Can she still be trusted? It is still considered grave threats”

CASTRO: ‘ROMANOV’ TERM FIRST CAME FROM BASTE DUTERTE
WATCH: Palace press officer Claire Castro said it was Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte who first invoked the term “Romanovs” in remarks directed at President Bongbong Marcos.
Castro referred to Baste's January 2024 statement urging the president to “think of the Romanovs” before going to bed.
She said this makes it difficult for Vice President Sara Duterte to invoke the alleged “Operation Romanov” to justify her controversial statements against the president. | @TristanNodalo
