Only God defines who you are.
Ideas shape us, but they are not us.
The danger comes when we hold them so tightly we forget to hold the truth.
Change your mind when truth demands it.
You lose something about yourself when you hold unquestioningly to something.
Courage isnโt just for big battles.
It takes courage to go on when youโre tired.
To cry when you know it makes you vulnerable.
To face yourself honestly.
The small moments may be the hardest ones.
My thoughts upon dusting off James D Bales' 1962 book:
When the State becomes the source of meaning, morality, and identity, the soul becomes small.
The deepest human problems are spiritual before they are economic.
The answer is not the State.
The answer is Christ.
Just as it is better to let a guilty man go free than it is to let an innocent man go to prison, it is always better to disbelieve a rumor about someone than it is to believe a rumor about someone.
Walk humbly, do justly, prize mercy, and in all things--love.
80 years ago we dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, a city of 255,000. Not intending to get into a debate or to virtue signal--so many moving parts leading up to that event. I'm just in awe that it happened. Always gives me pause.
