“Serving Rwandans is the most important thing and should be our first and foremost responsibility.” President Kagame | Swearing-in of Prime Minister and New Members of Parliament.
BBC News is calling 9 million Rwandan voters, including 2 million first-time Gen Z voters “rubber stamps”. Kweli @annesoy? Mbona matusi?
We see the disrespect BBC et al, and we raise you a determined, defiant, driven country. See you at the polls! Twagiye. #AmatoraMuMucyo #RwandaDecides #Sibomana 🇷🇼
“There are some who believe that the role of an army is to wage wars. That is a mistake. The armed forces of our country do not exist to create or provoke wars.
The history of our country is one where people were killed by fellow citizens, as a result of bad politics, both internally and externally. Children, the elderly, young men and women were asked to choose the weapon of their death. When a nation has reached this level of tragedy, it would be unthinkable for us to repeat this history.
The training of our armed forces, and the knowledge of our past, cannot allow for our tragic history to ever repeat itself in this country. That is your responsibility as the armed forces of this country: yours, the elders you are joining today and anyone who will come after you. And you must pursue it with dedication and integrity.” President Kagame | Officer Cadets Commissioning Ceremony, RMA-Gako.

“If I was some of the things people have said about me or described me as, the judgment is out there either for the people of this country or the people somewhere else and it wouldn't just be confined to the press because the press is full of individuals. But these individuals don't add up to a population that is as big as Rwanda's, even if Rwanda is very small.
You will find out, there are things that were said about this country 30 years ago, 25 years ago, that are being repeated now, which means, according to them, nothing has changed. They talk about Rwanda, very poor population. We are poor. We are not where the developed countries are for sure. But this poverty the way it was in 1995, in 2000, is not the way it is in 2024. But somebody will keep writing in the press like what we have today is the same thing as we had 25 years ago.” President Kagame | #Kwibuka30 Press Conference
