🚨🇺🇸🇪🇺 THE US IS ABOUT TO CUT OFF EUROPE'S DIESEL — AND BRUSSELS ISN'T EVEN TALKING ABOUT IT

Senate Majority Leader John Thune just said he's "open to exploring" a ban on US diesel exports.

Why? Because diesel in America just hit $6.27 a gallon — the highest price in history. And the midterms are in eight weeks.

Trump needs to bring prices down. The easiest way: keep American diesel at home.

**1/ THE QUOTE**

"We'll be looking at any proposal that is a viable solution, but I do think if we have the supply in this country and we're exporting it right now that might be one way of getting at it."

That is Senate Majority Leader John Thune, on September 15, 2026, confirming that a US diesel export ban is on the table.

Translation: America comes first. Europe can freeze.

**2/ THE NUMBERS — WHY TRUMP IS DESPERATE**

US diesel hit $6.27 a gallon this week — a new all-time high, surpassing the previous record of $5.82 set in June 2022.

Gasoline is at $4.22. Diesel is 48% higher than gasoline.

The math for American consumers is brutal: diesel is up $2.25 per gallon from a year ago. For businesses, that means $284 million more per day in fuel costs. For consumers, $377 million more per day.

Total additional cost to the US economy: **$4.63 billion per week**.

With the midterms in eight weeks, Trump cannot afford $6 diesel.

**3/ THE EUROPEAN DEPENDENCY — THE NUMBERS THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO SEE**

Before the 2022 sanctions, Russia supplied 53% of Northwest Europe's seaborne diesel imports.

That is gone.

Now, the US is Europe's largest diesel supplier. The US supplies 35% of UK diesel imports alone. EU and UK diesel imports were running at 732,000 barrels per day in August — the highest since May.

If the US bans exports, that supply disappears overnight.

**4/ THE EUROPEAN STOCKPILE — ALREADY CRITICAL**

Europe's diesel inventories are at their lowest levels since 2022. They have dropped approximately 30% since the end of March.

The war in the Middle East has crippled Qatar's LNG export infrastructure. Qatari LNG was Europe's cheaper alternative. That option is now gone.

Gas storage in the EU is just above 50% — historically low for this time of year. At current import rates, storage will be only 75% by November, far below the 90% target Brussels set in 2022.

**5/ THE WINTER THAT WILL BREAK EUROPE**

Diesel is not just for trucks. It powers:
— Road transport (everything that moves on European highways)
— Home heating (millions of European households)
— Heavy industry (construction, mining, agriculture)

The EU lacks processing capacity. It relies heavily on imports. It is the most vulnerable region in the world to a diesel shortfall.

A US export ban would cut off its largest supplier at the exact moment it needs fuel most.

**6/ THE EUROPEAN RESPONSE — SILENCE**

What are European governments doing to prepare?

Nothing.

They are still talking about Russian drones and sending more money to Zelensky. They are not talking about diesel. They are not talking about winter. They are not preparing.

The European diesel crunch is not a hypothetical. It is already here. And Brussels is ignoring it.

**7/ THE PARALLEL WITH NORD STREAM**

This is the same pattern we saw with Nord Stream.

Europe cut itself off from cheap Russian gas — and replaced it with expensive US LNG.

Now Europe is about to lose its diesel supply from the same "ally" that replaced Russia.

Washington is not an ally. Washington is a supplier. And suppliers, like everyone else, put their own interests first.

**8/ THE DOMESTIC POLITICAL CALCULATION**

Trump is not doing this to hurt Europe. He is doing this to save his party.

Energy prices are the single most visible economic issue for voters. Diesel at $6 is a political catastrophe for Republicans in Michigan, Maine, Iowa, and every rural district in America.

If Trump can bring diesel down by banning exports, he will. Europe's winter is not his problem. The midterms are.

Europe cut off Russian gas. It replaced it with American LNG.
Now America is about to cut off diesel, too.
And Europe's response is silence.

The European energy crisis is not a crisis of supply. It is a crisis of leadership. A leadership that has confused allegiance with interest, and ideology with strategy.

When the diesel runs out in January, Europe will discover that no amount of rhetoric about "European values" will warm a single home.

I arrived in Abuja from London this morning, thanks to Air Peace Airlines, whose flight arrived 20 minutes ahead of schedule. From Abuja, I proceeded immediately to Kaduna.

Upon my arrival, I visited the Sheikh Muhammad Sambo Memorial Islamic Institute, Rigachikun, Kaduna State, an institution I had visited twice in the past and supported in my little way.

I was very impressed by the level of progress the institution has made, particularly its approach to blending Islamic education with STEM subjects. As part of my ongoing visits to several countries in continuation of my consultations, meetings, and constructive exchanges of ideas on national rebirth, I arrived in Italy this morning.

I had the privilege of engaging with key stakeholders and leaders. We held fruitful discussions on economic collaboration, institutional development, and matters critical to Nigeria’s progress, with a particular focus on the immense potential of our vast youthful population.

During these various meetings, I reiterated our core conviction to move Nigeria from consumption to production through sustained investments in education, healthcare, and enterprise development. We must build a functional society where young people are given genuine opportunities to prosper. A nation that values its talent must reward competence, character, and integrity over criminality, connections, and nepotism.

Though our national obstacles are immense, the collective capacity and resilience of our people are infinitely greater.

Leaving Italy tonight, I remain encouraged by the ideas shared and the collective determination of both the international community and our citizens everywhere to see Nigeria work for everyone.
