Wait for it… #JamesMacMillan Miserere. At the end of a beautiful journey, from the deepest E major chord, the whole choir rises, burning hot and impassioned, for one last outcry, before coming finally, fully to rest. Wonderful memories of special concerts with #SWRVokalensemble.

Poulenc’s music has followed me like no one else’s over the past few years — or is it the other way around? Whichever, I’m so grateful for it. Here part of his miniature cantata, ‘Soir de Neige’. Live from the Domkerk, Utrecht on 23 Dec 2023.

Happy New Year! “Ihr wandelt droben im Licht” Brahms sets amazing words in his Schicksalslied. The opening is held on a thread, everything suspended in serene beauty. I wish us all light and love in this year to come.
@radiofilhorkest, @grootomroepkoor, live from @Concertgebouw.
@helenneeves1 The first email I received after starting as chief conductor in NL was from a singer and had the subject line: “Menopause”. Back then I nearly sent it straight to spam without opening. Now I think it’s vital we normalise/de-stigmatise this conversation - and a few others with it!
“Pure intonation, clear articulation, open sound formation and wealth of dynamic shades... Rheinberger's Mass sounds like an exciting Palestrina in a romantic guise - Rating: 9”
Thanks @Luisterklassiek for such a thoughtful, long-form review!
