@mitchmc243@TaylorLoy Diocese of the Southern Cross is the only Anglican jurisdiction I’m aware of recognising ordinations not administered by a bishop in apostolic succession.
@CyrilDash@dogslovecranmer Well it would certainly be possible but there doesn’t seem to be any interest in doing that. They also don’t seem to hold a sense of episcopacy as indelible because bishops revert to being a pastor upon retirement from office. It’s a little strange…
@HappyThurifer@benjamindcrosby I think discerning to be a deacon first is a good idea. But I think we would need to balance this model by lowering hurdles to being ordained deacon and not make the process longer.
@benjamindcrosby I have actually proposed this same model to a few people here. I’ve been a deacon for 3 years and am now discerning a call to the priesthood. It has been complex to take this path instead of the usual “priesthood express” track but I believe it will make me a better priest (DV).
@benjamindcrosby I think the OP is perhaps being a bit rigid and traditional in their distinctions however I am sympathetic to the proposal outlined — if we see wisdom in perpetuating the three orders we really should make sure candidates feel called to the diaconate before going further.
@liturgicalben@KingCrawa@Make_it_Raines@OSacrumCorIesu@2D0XPS@cath_cov There was quite a protracted dispute about this in the Diocese of Adelaide but it never progressed to a tribunal hearing. Instead the Bishop and Rector played things out in the media and basically stared each other down. The Rector retired 1 week after the Bishop 😂
