Cancer treatment inequity is one of today’s most critical healthcare concerns. Although radiation therapy is a keystone therapy in developed countries, low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) face significant gaps in availability.

some of the most important determinants of great care often escape formal capture.
medicine is more than treating disease; it is a memory system that responds to the lived realities of people.
many of these memories never reach the EHR:
• a child with autism who can complete a visit only if booked in the last slot of the day, when the waiting room is quiet
• a dialysis patient who attends reliably only when a neighbor is free to drive, and misses sessions otherwise
• a patient known as a “tough stick whose blood draw succeeds only if a butterfly needle is used, the arm is warmed, and hydration is encouraged beforehand
• a patient with depression who opens up only to the nurse who remembers to ask about her music
• a stroke survivor who reliably follows therapy exercises only if his spouse receives the instructions alongside him
this kind of memory is essential, but fragile. it fades when teams rotate, staff leave, or patients move. the system forgets, and patients feel it.
improvements in memory may be the greatest unlock for AI in medicine. to matter, these systems must prioritize not only clinical data, but the lived details that define great care.
that is the difference between building a faster horse and building a car.
In high-income countries, 90% of cancer patients have access to radiotherapy; in middle-income countries it’s 60%; but in low-income countries only 10% of patients benefit from this essential cancer care. IAEA's #RaysOfHope is here to change those discrepancies. #WorldRTDay#WRAD

Thank you so much, Dr. Sharifzadeh! Your unwavering support and the entire department’s guidance have meant everything. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without all of you cheering me on!
