The @SDAunion has won our case at the Fair Work Commission to force Chemist Warehouse in South Australia to the bargaining table for the very first time.
This is the first multi-employer bargaining order in the retail sector and only made possible under Labor’s new laws.
In 1999 Toys R Us sacked @AmandaRishworth and offered her job back if she signed one of Howard’s AWAs.
The @SDAunion stepped in, stood up
for Amanda and won.
I’m incredibly proud that my great friend Amanda Rishworth will today become Australia’s Workplace Relations Minister
Reality check: The very curriculum that Peter Dutton and his team are calling “woke” is the Australian curriculum that was reviewed, endorsed and implemented by the Coalition Government in April 2022.
This attack is purely a way to demonise the teaching profession and withhold money from public schools. #DontRiskDutton #ausvotes #auspol
ACTU President Michele O’Neil on fire annihilates ACCI CEO Andrew McKellar & his spin on Productivity & Wage Growth, questioning “where was the ACCI when productivity growth was higher than wages growth?”
“Deathly silence”💥🔥#NPC
There's 42 days in the year that women have the equivalent of working without pay, compared to men. My colleague @danziffer
on gender pay gap data w @unionsaustralia https://t.co/aL9QNTHOvN
At this rate, a 9 year old girl will enter the workforce as an adult with no gender pay gap. She would be 44 before that happened under the Coalition. Our full report is Minding-the-Gap.pdf
13. Protections against insecure work, that mostly women do.
14. Stronger rights to work from home.
15. Fairer rules around part time work (coming soon... hopefully).
16. A ban on pay secrecy clauses in contracts
17. Stronger pay gap reporting rules on companies.
18. Stronger laws to combat sexual harassment at work.
19. Costs protection for victims taking sexual harassment claims.
20. And a "whole of government" approach to winning gender equality.
8. Strong jobs growth for women, especially in full time work
9. Stronger rights to win flexible work arrangements
10. Ten days paid family and domestic violence leave
11. Improved childcare subsidies
12. Improvements to Commonwealth paid parental leave
In Australia, a woman on average earns $12,000 less than a man, just because she's a woman. But without the strong progress in closing the gender pay gap over the past two years, that figure would be closer to $14,000. A report from the ACTU out today explains why...
4. Equal pay for aged care workers
5. Equal pay for early childhood education and care workers (coming soon)
6. Equal pay in other female-dominated industries (coming soon)
7. Multi-employer bargaining that is helping in lower paid women get real negotiating power.
There are 20 major reforms in the past 2.5 years that are making a difference:
1. Gender Equality is now a goal of the Fair Work Act
2. Strong increases in award wages that benefit women
3. Ending wage suppression in the public sector.
The progress is even more stark looking at the "hourly pay gap" instead of the official "full time" measure. On the hourly measure, the gap actually increased under the Coalition from 7% up to 7.2%. Under Labor it's dropped to 4%. Why?
When the Albanese Government started, the gender pay gap was 14.1%, but has shrunk by 1.3% a year down to 11.5% today. That's more than three times the 0.4% annual rate under 9 years of the Coalition.
