I condemn Israel’s actions which killed scores of innocent civilians who were only seeking shelter from this deadly conflict.
There is no safe place in Gaza.
This horror must stop.
The imminent famine in the northern part of Gaza is an entirely manmade disaster.
I repeat my call for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire.
We must act now to prevent the unthinkable, the unacceptable, the unjustifiable.
I’m in Dubai for #COP28. Many are asking: ‘why is civil society attending a climate conference headed by an oil and gas CEO?’
Less people are asking: who benefits when global civil society is not there to hold their governments and fossil fuel interests accountable?
At the Youth Stocktake in Bonn, where COP28 CPD Al Jaber just spoke. He say he wants a "game-changing COP," but offered no clear benchmarks for success, especially the urgent need to rapidly phase out fossil fuels as is needed to hold temperature increases below 1.5 degrees C .
But dealing with #LossAndDamage cannot be limited to one global forum. The wider #FinancialSystem is involved in managing countries’ breathing room when disasters hit, and the @UNFCCC has little authority to shape decisions beyond its realm

Three Loss and Damage outcomes are needed @COP28_UAE to support vulnerable communities:
1⃣Starting up the new #LossandDamageFund agreed to @COP27P
2⃣ Delivering on funding sources for the Fund
3⃣ Unlocking the mosaic of financing 💲and fiscal space solutions
On Monday, ministers gather for 2023's first major #climate event, coinciding with the release of stark analysis in @IPCC_CH Synthesis Report.
The Copenhagen Climate Ministerial must define radical ‘course correction’ in global #ClimateAction this year.

🌍Great to meet Vanuatu's Foreign Affairs Minister Jotham Napat, to discuss how to ensure a strong vote at the #UN GA in March on the #ICJAO
🔥Civil society is commited to push the #EU forward to make #ClimateJustice a legal reality

As #China’s wealth and emissions grow, so does its #climate responsibility. Taking part in the transformation of the global financial system will show 🇨🇳 willingness to take on this responsibility, write @byfordt & @JuanPOsornio in @SCMP_Opinion 👇 https://t.co/P5exZCT2MG
🧵 The global response to climate change involves three pillars: adaptation, mitigation, and loss and damage response. SIDS have always recognised the interconnectivity between these pillars. (1/11)
A tale of two COPs in Sharm El Sheikh: On one hand a landmark decision to establish a loss and damage fund to address the devastating consequences of climate change, on the other a major failure to finally name and tackle the cause of the climate crisis: fossil fuels. #COP27
Political will delivers big step forwards with Loss and Damage fund at #COP27#FossilFuel tensions still to be fully addressed: inches forward leave little assurance on the acceleration needed to keep temperature rise below 1.5C.

We did it!
Today we crossed a major hurdle in saving our islands.
After the tireless effort by our team of hardworking and devoted negotiators and supportive partners, we are pleased to say we now have a #LossandDamageFund
What's the state of play on L&D finance this morning after draft text by Ministers + surprise announcement by EU to support at *this* COP the establishment of a dedicated Fund last night?
How does it compare to G77 proposal?
