The girl in this photo was doing her PhD and when she told a fellow student her dissertation was on The Boondocks, the student replied: “your existence in the program devalues my degree.”
15 years later her book based on her Boondocks dissertation made her the first Black woman to win an Eisner award at San Diego Comic (the Oscars of Comics), her folllow-up book on comics was a clue on Jeopardy and she's sold nearly 1k copies of her dissertation this year.
Her name is Dr. Sheena Howard.
