@katebevan An unexpected benefit of having our IoT devices on a separate SSID is that any backup only has to support our most important devices (laptops / tablets).
@katebevan When our internet / power fails (we are rural, the wet string often dries out a lot) I do the same with my phone hotspot (or a MiFi) to provide a backup connection.
