This morning, I received a call from a very senior official in the Office of the President.

The message was simple but significant: H.E. President John Dramani Mahama will personally officiate the launch of the Ghana National Research Fund (#GNRF) on 16 June 2026.

For decades, many of us have advocated for a predictable national mechanism to finance research, innovation, and knowledge creation in Ghana.

Institutions do not transform nations simply because they exist in law. They become transformative when leaders give them life, purpose, and national priority.

The President’s decision to personally launch the GNRF sends a powerful signal that research and innovation matter to Ghana’s future.

@realKenAgyapong It's Accra that has chronic flooding problem and not the entire nation. When you've such population in a tropical city without proper planning for green areas reserved to absorb run-off water and drains located near bare lands with silt draining into them, flooding is inevitable
