While this isn't as bad as the first terrible representation – which said it this about tax - there's still a misdirection. As I’ve already stated, in that private conversation I was referring to Labour hoping to make a positive change I’ve been campaigning for, but it didn’t want to lock it in the manifesto as it can’t promise to deliver.

NO party’s manifesto tells the full story. ALL parties have things they hope to do but that aren’t in manifestos – as they can’t guarantee to deliver. The idea that Labour is an outlier for that is preposterous.

NEW: Tories have massively ramped up spending on social media ads since weekend, in eleventh-hour boost to their online campaign.

Conservatives appear to have held back money in order to flood Facebook and Instagram in days leading up to election.

Tory spending on Meta platforms rose to £96k on Saturday, up from £37k daily average since election called, and has stayed high since.

Strategy echoes 2019, when Labour insiders admitted being blindsided by Tories deluging social media in final 72 hours.

Labour has also increased spending for the final push, but at a slower rate - and from a higher base.

Overall Labour has vastly outspent Tories on Meta during six-week campaign: spending £2.9mn versus Conservatives' £1.7mn

This may reflect strained Tory fundraising in early part of this campaign. In the first three weeks, party drew in just a tenth of the donations it raised in equivalent period in 2019 campaign
