I am excited to announce that our paper on the effects of SYNGAP1 mutations in human neurons is published in @NeuroCellPress . Thanks to Ryohei Iwata, Keimpe Wierda for the top-notch team work and @VanderhaeghenP2 and @BoninLab for amazing support. @CBD_VIB @__NERF@imec_int
These results suggest that the prolonged development or neoteny of human cortical neurons is altered. This disruption in early development of infant brain circuits, could have lasting effects on the brains of SYNGAP1 patients.
My latest #neuro#visualization:
An intuition pump on connectivity in the #brain
~75K #neurons in the #MICrONS mm³.
I/O segregated by layers, function is columnar; the cortical column is the unit of cortical computation.
A typical #pyramidal cell has over >10K input #synapses.
Extremely thankful to the Whitehall Foundation for supporting our research using holographic optogenetics to link neural activity to motor behaviors!
We're looking for postdocs to work on this and other projects. If you're interested let me know. https://t.co/DM3jLPg8jP
@PojeongP and @jdwong_campos combined optogenetics and voltage imaging to map responses of hippocampal neurons in acute slices to arbitrary patterns of optogenetic and synaptic inputs.

Please read and sign if you think that biological and medical research is important!
The EU will discuss a complete ban of animal research, which will be detrimental to all basic and applied research and thereby impact everyone's knowledge and health.
Happy to see our pandemic project out in print (literally)! Thanks Eirini and all the authors for making this happen. And thanks to my other chapter co authors @UNC_Optics and @HayleyBounds for writing this chapter on 3D-SHOT and how to use it.
Looking for a PhD in Neurobiology? From slice physiology to in-vivo recordings in behaving animals and projects on diseases we do everything at @Sissaschool! Check out https://t.co/qA05dSvy15 and apply here until the 24th of March https://t.co/A4zF27S9XV
Generally a big hater on 2p voltage imaging since there are so many components of the physics working against it, but this paper got me part of the way past my skepticism. Still ambivalent but less so.. https://t.co/TSDkKNb3VH
My PhD work on the diversity of visual tuning properties in the mouse visual cortex has been published in Nature Communications! https://t.co/noGcDhtBcf
Millions thanks to my colleague @BenVermaercke, supervisor Vincent @BoninLab@__NERF for making it possible!
Meet the organizing committee of #Neurotech22!
This #neuroscience meeting, organized by @VIBLifeSciences & @__NERF, in partnership with @CellPressNews, will focus on neurotechnologies for research and neuroprosthetic applications.

We have an open PhD position to study cortical circuits. Cutting-edge two-photon microscopy (Diesel2P, 3D-shot, thanks to @INSS_UK), retrosplenial cortex, and beautiful fjords, lots of them. Please retweet.
