Healing yourself isn’t about being a perfect enlightened being. You’ll have set backs. You’ll still do things you regret. Healing is accepting yourself when your instinct is to punish yourself.
It’s not your job to try to convince someone to choose you. Your only job is to be the protector of your heart and of your boundaries. Choose wisely when deciding who to invest your energy in.
i am ready to meet me. i went through the emotions. i went through the darkness and kept going. i see the signs everywhere. the universe has my back. the red triangle, the blue sky and the eye, the person walking up to me and feeling the vivid embrace around my waist. i am ready
We don’t find a relationship.
We build one.
The notion that this “right person” will appear and make all our problems disappear is a myth. That being said, there are certainly those who are wrong for us and being able to distinguish who is right vs who is not, is the key.
Successful relationships aren’t about two healed people coming together to have the perfect relationship.
They’re about unhealed people having the courage to show the parts of themselves they usually hide.
They’re about unhealed people learning how to ask for help, accept help, and build security.
They’re about unhealed people forgiving themselves and each other over and over again.
They're about unhealed people crying together on the kitchen floor as they repair after conflict.
They're about unhealed people learning how to leave fight or flight.
How long people are married says nothing about the health of the marriage.
People who can’t stand to be in the same room spend decades together.
Some live double lives.
Some couples haven’t had a real conversation in 25 years.
Don’t idealize longevity.
Idealize relationships where you see mutual respect, admiration, and underneath it all: true friendship.
Part of what contributes to a relationship feeling easeful is appreciation. When two people sincerely and deeply appreciate one another, they don’t damage the connection with a bunch of expectations. They are grateful to have each other.
Having an affair, betraying someone, or living in a constant state of hiding something can only be done by someone in a deeply conflicted relationship with themselves. The chronic stress on your body from getting your story straight, and making sure you don’t get caught is self imposed harm. Heal and learn to love yourself so you don’t bring other people in to your own internal war. Heal and learn to love yourself so your body can know the health and peace that only comes from transparency.
