Since the Great Financial Crisis of 2008, most of Africa either took baby steps forward or went backwards.
But, Ghana, Ethiopia & Rwanda BOOMED.
ETHIOPIA, GHANA & RWANDA = GROWTH CHAMPIONS.
So if as Egypt and Eritrea say only littoral states have anything to say about Red Sea, then logically only nations which put water into the Nile, can determine its use.

Ethiopia’s commitment for peace and security in Somalia has been demonstrated through the blood and sweat of its precious sons and daughters. Ethiopia & Somalia are not just neighbors who share a border but they are fraternal nations sharing a common language, culture & people.
In light of the Ethiopian deal with Somaliland, yesterday in the Houses of Parliament I called on the UK Government to start the process to recognise Somaliland as a free, independent sovereign nation.
“Misinformation and Disinformation” is the top global danger (risk) cited in a poll conducted by the World Economic Forum (WEF) as part of the annual #Davos2024 summit which started Monday.

You can hate a party or a government, that’s normal everywhere including here in the United States. But if your hatred goes too far to the point that you want your home country to collapse, then you have a problem! Who do you think are suffering the most from the inflation and the economic crisis in #Ethiopia?
My friends, it’s the ordinary people who are paying the price. Those politicians are still enjoying their lives, they don’t go to bed with empty stomachs! Don’t confuse hating the government with hating the country. Governments come and go, but the country stays.
These countries are thousands of miles away from the #HornOfAfrica, but all have bases in our regions.
- Japan is 9788 km away from the Red Sea
- USA 10400 km
- China 4500 km
- EU 5000 km
- Turkey 3200 km
- And so many others
Ethiopia is only 65 km away from the Red Sea. I can't understand why so many people are upset about #Ethiopia to have a base/port in the Red Sea? Can someone explain to me why?
Thanks to @CaitrionaPerry & the @BBCNews team for having me on tonight to discuss the geopolitical significance of the MOU between #Ethiopia🇪🇹 & #Somaliland, giving the former access to the port of Berbera & the latter a path to recognition. Realism-based statesmanship at last!
Ethiopia has thousands of troops in south-central Somalia. These troops provide a level of security and deterrence that allows federal states to function.
The ongoing bilateral comes at difficult moment.
The Somali Wire looks at the grave security implications of current spat.
Apart from the supply of water, Ethiopia is a safe haven to hundreds of thousands of somalis whenever they are forced to leave their homeland due to the inherent ethic strifes occur or the regime declares war on the people. Tens of thousands of Somalis are still living in Ethiopia in better treatment than in Somalia, even without having proper residence permits. Somali politicians in Mogadishu do not appear to take into consideration these realities in their reactions against the MoU signed between Ethiopia and Somaliland. Ethiopia, despite the fact that it has legitimate right to utilise its water resources, never intends to stop the flow of Wabe Shebelle and Juba rivers.
The United States was willing to push for the recognition of Somaliland, but it thought the African Union was there for Somaliland. That time was back in 2005. Now, Ethiopia has opened the door. The US and UK will take the lead.
Of course Somalia is pitching a snit-fit over the Ethiopia-Somaliland port deal instead of focusing on its own situation. What sane nation would deal with a Somali port while that nation is in turmoil. Fix your own problems before worrying over neighbors! https://t.co/mKzNjFnRmg
