For the first time since 1952 the Steubenville Big Red made an appearance in the state final four and made the most of it as they held off Hoban 60-58 to advance to the Division 3 State Championship.
It was a near-historic night for Big Red guard Santino Haney as he finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists, but they needed every one of them as Hoban answered with four players in double figures.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth high scoring affair with Hoban holding a 24-20 advantage, but the Big Red bounced back with a 14-10 second to even things at 34 at the break.
Steubenville took advantage for good in the third quarter as Haney and Tre'Von Wiggins each hit three shots in the quarter, but Hoban had one more run in them as they got the deficit down to two with the ball and seven seconds left, but a turnover would end the threat and send the Big Red to its second state final in as many tries.
