The simple point was that the US held the 1864 election despite the ongoing brutal war.

Zelensky was originally elected on a platform of peace, good relations with Russia, and rights/autonomy for Ukrainian Russians. He even got a majority of the Donbas vote. He then went in the opposite direction.

He abrogated the Minsk Accords and then walked away from Istanbul, both of which were infinitely preferable to what since happened. The catastrophic mass death and destruction is because of his choices.

But I think it's now too late. Russia just signaled that they've lost patience and will dramatically escalate. This will include the destruction of the Zelensky regime.
