Milena Jesenská, geboren am 10. August 1896, tschechische Journalistin, Autorin, Freundin und Übersetzerin Kafkas. Nach der Besetzung Prags durch NS-Deutschland 1939 geht sie in den Widerstand. Im selben Jahr wird sie verhaftet und in Ravensbrück inhaftiert. Dort stirbt sie 1944.

11 August 1927 | Belgian Jewish girl, Anna Rozenblum, was born in Charleroi.

In April 1944 she was deported to #Auschwitz from Mechelen / Malines. She did not survive.

11 August 1909 | A Czech Jewish woman, Anna Beerová, was born. An architect.

She was deported to #Auschwitz from #Theresienstadt Ghetto on 16 October 1944. She left the camp in the Death March. She perished in Bergen-Belsen in April 1945.

9 August 1944 | Two Greek Jewish prisoners of the Sonderkommando attempted to escape while being forced to transport the ashes of people murdered at Auschwitz to the Vistula River.

One of them was Albertos "Alex" Errera, born on 15 January 1913, a Greek Jewish naval officer, Auschwitz prisoner no. 182552.

As a member of the resistance in the Sonderkommando, in early August 1944 Errera took the clandestine photographs near crematorium V that became some of the most extraordinary visual evidence of the extermination process at Auschwitz II-Birkenau. They show, among other things, bodies of murdered Jews being burned in open-air pits and women shortly before they were murdered in a gas chamber.

On 9 August, the two prisoners attacked their guards and tried to reach the other bank of the Vistula. Errera apparently succeeded in crossing the river, but the escape ultimately failed. He was fatally shot during the pursuit.

Errera was 31 years old.

10 August 1942 | An SS doctor selected 75 sick prisoners at the Auschwitz infirmary. They were all killed with phenol heart injections on that day.

10 August 1889 | Polish woman Zofia Kossak-Szczucka was born. A writer, co-founder of the Council to Aid Jews "Żegota".

Estimates of the number of Jews that Żegota provided aid to, and eventually saved, range from several thousands to tens of thousands

She was arrested on 27 September 1943 and incarcearted in #Auschwitz 9 days later.

In April 1944 she was trasferred to Warsaw and sentenced to death. Released thanks to activity of the Polish underground.

Zofia Kossak-Szczucka passed in 1968.

In August 1942 he was deported from Drancy to #Auschwitz. After the selection he was murdered in a gas chamber.
