So I knew something had fallen in the Himalayas.
I just didn’t realise something THIS big could come down.
When I first read that 0.2 km² had broken off, the number meant almost nothing to me.
So I tried to visualize it.
That is roughly the area of 28 football grounds.
28 football grounds of ice and debris breaking away from high in the Himalayas and dropping nearly 1,200 metres into the base below.
And suddenly, the scale of the Nepal flood started to make much more sense.
We see the videos of water destroying everything within minutes.
But it’s hard to imagine what actually came down from the mountain.
This is what shocked me most.
It wasn't just “a glacier fell.”
Something the size of 28 football grounds broke away.
When you finally visualize that scale…
the flood becomes even more terrifying.
