Go to work, prepare, play hard as a team.
No one cares who scores, only that the team does. Preventing points is equal to scoring them.
The flashiest highlight is the final scoreboard.
Get paid in wins.
Great work & coverage Kevin, thank you!!
Tappan Zee, a team with nobody over 6 feet in the starting lineup, just won the state championship.
Maybe the greatest TEAM I’ve ever seen in my years. Tonight in Glens Falls, a 49-36 win over Irondequoit for the NYSPHSAA Class A title.
Tappan Zee 49 defeats Irondequoit 36. Sean Berrigan led the way with 20. Jack Maloney added 18.
Sean Berrigan - Tournament MVP
Jack Maloney - All-Tournament
Tommy Linehan - All-Tournament
Tappan Zee Boys Basketball is the Class A New York State Champion!
Tappan Zee boys captured the 3rd Gold Ball in school history and first since 2012. To some, it was a "title drought."
Remember, however, that is based on perception generated by their unparalleled consistency. They've suffered some heartbreaking losses. But you can't lose those games unless you get to those games. And TZ for 13 years, always got to those games.
And they've done it in Class A, the most competitive class in Section 1 and arguably the entire NYSPHSAA. Since 2010, 21 different schools made the Class A final four. TZ did 12 of 13 years (no tourney in 2021). There's been 28 to 32 teams in the conference. That's almost half the section. 8 different schools won a Gold Ball.
Tappan Zee is 262-46 since 2010 with 3 Gold Balls.
If this breakdown proves anything, it's not only how consistently great TZ has been since 2010 - but reinforces how difficult it has been for everyone else to approach that level.
