So cool to see people using my app Signals, which I submitted to the #supernova hackathon the other day ♥️ People have left Signals in Hong Kong, Japan, Turkey, and lots of other places already! 😍
https://t.co/r0aVmQxUqB Go give it a like 🙏

We're so excited to announce our integration with @OpenChat
You can now send messages to people on Signals!
This is huge for the app, and we'll explain why below 👇
Huge thanks to the OC and @julianjelfs for the collab ❤️
Seems like now is a good time to tell new folks about what we're building on the Internet Computer 🤩 $ICP
Here's the thing - we don't think the apps you use every day should be controlled only by a small group of people with a vested interest
They should be controlled by you!
So our Prime Minister, who wasn't elected, now appoints someone who wasn't even elected as a Member of Parliament to the government's front benches.
✨Ahhh democracy✨
@fdjones87 Hadn’t actually read this high level overview in a while, seems quite good:

Still has quite a lot of technical terms that might not be familiar though. It’s quite a different model to anything else I think, so takes a bit to wrap your head around.
Call me a fool, but I actually believe that blockchain has emancipatory potential (part of what I'm exploring with Signals). Imagine if instead of shopping on Amazon, or using Google, you used platforms where the revenue was shared by the people and distributed democratically.
🌊 A deep dive into our new Funding Signal!
We think blockchain technology can help empower local communities to solve local issues. As well as connect communities together through networked solidarity.
A 🧵 on how we're building people-powered decentralised finance...
@fdjones87 The Internet Computer docs on the SNS outline it, but maybe isn’t beginner friendly. I’ll have a think on long form content though and get back to you 👍 Maybe I could write something 🤔
@fdjones87 It’s similar, but in this case it’s more of a user-owned cooperative. And the thing that’s different is that changes to the platform can only be made if users vote them through. On the IC that’s done through an SNS sale.
@fdjones87 I’m not sure consumers only care about “the service”. Even so, I’m suggesting revenue goes to the community, through democratic means, where the platform is community owned. So it’s a different service which is actually only possible now with blockchain (& specifically the IC)
@fdjones87 That’s quite a different thing than what I’ve built here though. Are you suggesting that new projects and ideas aren’t worth exploring because of Big Tech’s stranglehold?
@fdjones87 I don’t know of any platforms owned by the users, and where revenue is shared by people locally. Forward me them if you do tho, would love to see them!
@CryptoPak70 In the app there's a tab in the left nav bar called "Latest" which has some details (the plan is to turn this into more of a blog area). I'll also be doing a Twitter Space AMA soon too. We're not currently hiring, but I'll post there if/when we are :) Glad you enjoyed the app🥰
🚀 We've been quietly building some exciting features on Signals 🤓🤫

Introducing the Beta release with a plethora of features we believe you'll love! A thread

@Bhawanbtc @signalsicp The whole thing is a journey. I'm learning loads about code, but also just about business, marketing etc. Signals is still bootstrapped - so it's really just me atm (with some help from a friend on FE). I've got loads of areas to improve in - and comms is defo one of them!
@Bhawanbtc @signalsicp bc a huge amount of what I've been working on isn't user facing & I felt like there wasn't that much to "post" about.
I've been making the app scalable, performant, improving testing/releases/backup/logging etc. It's only now I feel I have features that are interesting to users
I need a cut for how much my questions are training ChatGPT on the IC 🙈 Wish you could turn on a "use my dumb questions for learning" mode to help others. Surprising how much it does know though, given the limited training data it must have.
